Why SSL certification?
- Each Portal created for a Product in Freshdesk contains a Portal URL mapped to it.
- Securing this domain with an SSL certificate encrypts the data a customer enters in the support portal so that only the domain owner will be able to read this data.
- When secured with an SSL certificate, a portal address will automatically change to HTTPS:// from HTTP://
- If our customer uses a domain provided by Freshdesk (i.e. the portal address ends with “.freshdesk.com“), the support portal is automatically secured by default.
- If our customer hosts the support portal on a custom domain and does not have an SSL certificate, then they request with us a free SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt(SSL certification provider) in their Portal Settings.
BYOC(Bring your own certificate)
- We might have customers reaching out requesting to use their own SSL certification. However, this is currently not supported yet and the customers will have to use the SSL certificate provided by us.
- Please raise an L6 or link to an existing FR tracker if customers requests for the same.
